Our experienced engineers replaced an outdated control panel incorporating correct switchgear of the latest Trend IQ5 Controller; crucially, we kept the heating and ventilation plant operating efficiently and safely throughout the works. As a result, the Health Centre now benefits from improved system compatibility, greater reliability, and lower long-term maintenance demands.

What did we do?
Magpie BMS Services replaced the control system for the heating and ventilation plant serving the NHS Health Centre, coordinating the works alongside other plant upgrades.
Why did we carry out this project?
The client wanted to take advantage of a planned plant shutdown that was occurring, due to boiler and pump upgrades, and carry out the replacement of the controls at the same time.
The original control panel dated back to the early 2000s. The switchgear did not match some of the parts of existing plant and lacked compatibility with the new plant equipment that was being installed. As a result, a full control system replacement became essential.
What was the benefit to the client?
Installing Trend IQ5 Controllers and replacing control panels has significantly extended the life cycle of the system. This will reduce ongoing maintenance and repair costs.
Were there any challenges during the project?
In carrying out the work, we found that the Air Handling Unit Control Valves had seized. Although this plant was served by the new panel, its replacement was not part of the original contract. Following project completion, we replaced and commissioned the valves and actuators under a separate scope, ensuring the full system operated as intended.
Where there any disruptions to services?
The client asked for minimal disruptions to the Health Centre, and we honoured this requirement to keep the plant continuously operational without disrupting day-to-day operations.
